Early on lap 22 at the Sachsenring, Mir braked late for turn one, running wide and opening a gap for Ogura to attempt an overtake.

However, the Japanese rider lost the front of his bike, taking Mir down with him. Stewards reviewed the incident and deemed it a racing incident, opting not to penalize Ogura. Despite this, the reigning Moto2 world champion took responsibility and apologized to Mir.

"The crash was entirely my fault. I saw the riders in front braking deep, and there aren't many overtaking opportunities on this track, so I tried. I lost the front and unfortunately took another rider with me. I'm very sorry to Joan; it wasn't a good feeling. During the race itself, I felt much better than on Friday. It was much better, and I could maintain the pace of most of the riders ahead of me. There are positives to take away, but what's the point if I don't see the checkered flag," said Ogura.

Tracthaus Aprilia team principal, Davide Brivio, also commented on the incident between Ogura and Mir, saying the team had apologized to Honda.

"It's a shame because Ai was making good progress and maintaining a good pace. He saw an opportunity and tried, but crashed while overtaking, which happens; it's part of racing. Unfortunately, it caused contact with Joan, and we want to apologize to him and Honda for that. I think we could have progressed and learned more, but despite this, we're happy with Ai's pace; it was improving during the race," stated Brivio.
