I knew it — Gyokeres reacts to ending drought with brace against Atletico Madrid
Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres said that he was confident that his goals were going to come after he scored a brace to end a nine-game drought across matches for the Gunners and Sweden.
The 27-year-old scored in the 67th and 70th minutes, Arsenal's 3rd and 4th goals in the 4-0 demolition of Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium.
What Gyokeres said
Gyokeres expressed his delight in the result, lauding the team for their effort in the triumph over Atletico Madrid.
"I am very pleased. They had some good opportunities, but I think we controlled it overall,” he told UEFA, per the BBC.
"To score four and keep a clean sheet again is very good. We always keep going. We do the things right when we defend, and when we get the chances, we are extremely strong in taking those.”
Gyokeres got his goals on the day, marking the end of a worrying drought. However, he suggested that it never bothered him, reiterating that his primary goal was collective success.
"Both [my] goals were great. I try to do my best all the time and work hard, contribute with different stuff and the goals would have come sooner or later.”
"We want to do well; we want to win football matches, but there's a long journey to go. We will take it game by game, even if that sounds boring."
