‘He does not want to represent his country’ - Ex-Super Eagles star slams Umar Sadiq for coming late to camp

Sadiq was included in Nigeria's 23-man squad by interim coach Augustine Eguavoen for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Two days after the majority of the players had arrived, the forward, who had been having trouble at his club, showed up for camp on Wednesday morning.

However, the Real Sociedad forward was an unused substitute for Nigeria during their 1-1 draw against Benin Republic.

Udi was disappointed by Sadiq's demeanour and body language while appearing on Brila FM's No Holds Barred with Ifeanyi Udeze.

He said, “Sadiq’s case seems to be one not wanting to represent the country; then you are calling the person. What do you expect?

“He is a top professional and has made us proud, but I like players that can come out straight. If you don’t want to play, it’s fine—just say it. Don’t stroll into camp casually and disrespect the others who are fully committed.”

Given Sadiq's dismal performance at Real Sociedad, Udi also questioned the reason behind his invitation.

He continued, “He is not going to play. I don’t even know why they invited him. He has issues with his club Real Sociedad and has not even been playing.

“Why add more pressure by inviting him to the national team only to sit on the bench? It’s unnecessary stress.”

Sadiq will hope to play a part in the Super Eagles game against Rwanda in Uyo on Monday following their qualification to the 2025 AFCON tournament.
