The centre-forward trio of Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe are up and faraway early favourites for the Ballon d'Or, given their incredible goal-scoring record this campaign.

What Kane said

The England international won his first set of silverware last season. He has started this campaign brilliantly, with 21 goals for Bayern Munich in Bundesliga and the Champions League already.

Hence, his name has come up in the early Ballon d'Or conversation. However, Kane understands that his goals will not matter if he does not win the Champions League.

“I could score 100 goals this season, but if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, you’re probably not going to win the Ballon d’Or,” Kane told the Mirror, per Fabrizio. “It’s the same with Haaland, with any player. You have to be winning those major trophies.”

Kane and the Ballon d'Or

Harry Kane’s goalscoring credentials were impossible to ignore last season. His first full year at Bayern produced 44 goals in 45 appearances, which meant he shared the Gerd Müller Trophy for the season’s top goalscorer at the Ballon d’Or gala with Kylian Mbappe.

Yet despite that haul and the Gerd Müller prize, Kane did not translate pure scoring volume into a top Ballon d’Or placing, as he finished outside the top 10 (specifically 13th).
