Thomas made her highly-awaited visit to the continent this month when she started with the Addis Ababa Grand Prix, where she won both the 100m and 200m, clocking 11.13 seconds and 22.13 seconds respectively.

She then went on to set a new 200m championship record at the Kip Keino Classic last Friday when she clocked 21.89, erasing the previous time of 22.07 by fellow countrywoman Sha'Carri Richardson in 2023 at Kasarani Stadium.

She also completed the double by claiming the 100m race in a time of 11.01 seconds in Nairobi.

Two days later, the American lit up the Gaborone Golden Grand Prix in Botswana when she set her first-ever sub-11-second performance in 100m.

Thomas In Awe of Her Performances in Africa

Thomas brought the house down when she recorded 10.95 seconds, comfortably beating fellow American Cambrea Sturgis, who finished second in 11.07, and Canada's Audrey Leduc, who took third in 11.10.

“5/5 in Africa Hallelujah. Sub 22 Hallelujah. Sub 11 Hallelujah. No wind Hallelujah,” Thomas reacted to her tour of Africa with a post on her Instagram stories, expressing delight at her impressive performance on her first time on the continent.

It has been a fine start to the season for the Olympics 200m as she is unbeaten so far in 2026, having started her campaign with a victory in 100m at the Texas Relays, stopping the clock at 11.00 seconds, while she also claimed a win in the 4x100m in a time of 43.24 seconds.

Having seen her 2025 season cut short by an injury that ruled her out of the World Championships, Thomas has made a grand return and will be hoping to maintain the high-level performance.
