AFC Leopards vs Shabana FC: FKF President Displeased With Chaos

However, the victory has been overshadowed by ugly scenes of violence that forced a temporary halt to the game.

The trouble erupted in the second half shortly after AFC Leopards scored their third goal, leading to a heated confrontation between rival fans in the stands.

Security forces were forced to intervene by lobbing teargas canisters into the seating areas to disperse the warring factions and restore order.

The match was suspended for approximately 11 minutes as players and officials waited for the stinging fumes to clear and for the chaos to subside.

Reports from the stadium indicated that several fans sustained injuries during the melee and received medical attention from emergency responders on-site.

This has prompted Hussein Mohammed, the president of the Football Kenya Federation, to issue a stern warning to clubs, stressing that such incidents continue to derail Kenyan football’s progress and undermine efforts to restore credibility within the local game.

He emphasised that inadequate security remains one of the most pressing challenges facing the sport in the country, arguing that recurring crowd trouble and poor matchday management have significantly hindered Kenya’s ambitions of elevating its leagues to compete among Africa’s elite.

“I enjoyed an exciting SportPesa League fixture between AFC Leopards and Shabanah FC at the Nyayo Stadium earlier this evening,” Hussein Mohammed shared a post on his X (Twitter) handle.
