Diego Costa rolls back the years to power Wolves past Brentford

Diego Costa scored his first goal since arriving at Wolverhampton Wanderers before a Hwang Hee-chan strike secured the three points late on against Brentford to put the home side within touching distance of safety.

Wolves came into this game knowing a win would push them very close to safety and they began exactly as you would expect, on the front foot. 

After 27 minutes, Diego Costa scored his first goal in the Premier League since 2017, on hand to poke home a bouncing ball in the box. 

Wolves continued to press and Brentford had no answer for the aggression shown by the hosts and could count themselves lucky not to be 2-0 down just before halftime.

Wolves had a legitimate second half shout waved away by the referee but it wouldn't matter much as they soon got their second goal.

Hwang tapped the ball into an empty net from about six yards to double the hosts' advantage. 

The South Korean's second Premier League goal in three appearances ensured Lopetegui’s side would be going home with the three points.

This victory ensures Wolves put daylight between themselves and the bottom three, with a seven-point gap now separating them from the drop as things currently stand.
