The defeat on Sunday, sealed by goals from Thijs Dallinga and Jhon Lucumi, was Napoli's fifth of the season and prompted a brutally honest post-match reaction from the Italian coach.

What Conte said

He expressed deep frustration with what he perceived as a lack of fight and unity within the squad.

"We needed more energy in everything. What's disappointing is that they showed more positivity and desire than us.

"It should make us reflect... It means we need to reflect, which we've already done," Conte told DAZN, comparing his side to a vibrant Bologna team.

Conte's concerns ran deeper than a single poor result, pointing to a fundamental breakdown in team spirit.

"Three or four months have passed, and there's no chemistry, no desire to fight together. I don't know if we'll be able to change the situation. I don't want to be with a deceased person; everyone has to take responsibility," he admitted

In a striking moment of self-criticism, the former Chelsea and Inter boss turned the spotlight on himself.

"I'm the first to be held accountable. I'm disappointed because I'm not finding the energy in the guys again; it means I'm not doing a good job," he stated.

Amid the bleak team performance, where Napoli managed just a single shot on target, Conte found a sliver of encouragement in the display of striker Rasmus Hojlund.

"I didn't mind Hojlund today, perhaps the best player on the pitch. He attacked the depth and held his own... Lucumi struggled to control him. We should have supported him more," Conte remarked.

The loss leaves Napoli in fourth place in Serie A, just one point ahead of Bologna. Conte's candid remarks have intensified pressure on both the players and the club's management. With a challenging fixture against Atalanta looming after the international break, all eyes will be on whether the team can respond to their manager's public challenge or if Conte's tenure is approaching a premature end.
