Pastor Adeboye made this statement while delivering a sermon on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025 at the church headquarters in Ebutemeta, Lagos.

The Super Falcons were handsomely rewarded by Nigeria's President after the team secured their record 10th WAFCON title, defeating host Morocco 3-2 in a captivating final at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

After winning the WAFCON, President Tinubu has promised the Super Falcons $100,000, a 3-bedroom apartment, and a national honor.

What Pastor Adeboye said

Reacting to the event, Pastor Adeboye, a former Mathematics Lecturer recalled that he himself was a sportsman —a boxer during his youthful days. He stressed that President Tinubu must be commended for his generousity, because during his own time as a sportsman, all he got was a handshake —what many termed "golden presidential handshake."

However, Pastor Adeboye stressed that coach Justin Madugu and his backroom staff also deserve to receive the same generous compensation as the players for their efforts.

Coaching is very important for success - Pastor Adeboye

According to Pastor Adeboye "Coaches have knowledge, wisdom they have acquired over the years. Wisdom is better than strength. You can be strong and still lose."

Daddy GO, as he's fondly called highlighted an example where he and some of his friends failed to get a scholarship because of how they ate at a dinner organised for them.

"We failed because we didn't know how to win, there was no one to guide us," Pastor Adeboye said.

However, he narrated another example where he got in because someone had given him and his friends insights into what was required to win.

Daddy GO read from Ecclesiastes 10:10 stating that "wisdom brings success and that's why you need a good coach who would tell you how to go about it."

Pastor Adeboye recalled how his former coach instructed his team to train for 180 minutes instead of the regular 90 minutes. This eventually paid up and within the first half his team were already 4-0 up.

"Do more than the average fellow. If you do what the average person does, you will be average," Adeboye stated.

Pastor Adeboye closed by saying that divine involvement is also needed to win.
