Christantus Uche: Premier League club ENQUIRES about Super Eagles midfielder at Getafe
Super Eagles new midfielder Christantus Uche has become a serious target for Premier League club Leeds United, according to a report from The Athletic.
The newly promoted Premier League side has reportedly made initial inquiries about the 22-year-old’s availability several weeks ago, but has yet to submit a formal bid.
Uche, who moved to Getafe from Spanish third-tier club AD Ceuta last summer, enjoyed a breakout La Liga season, featuring in 38 matches with 4 goals and 6 assists.
His versatility, capable of playing as a striker, winger, or attacking midfielder, has made him a key figure in Getafe’s squad.
Under contract until 2028, Uche has a €25 million (£21.6m/$29.1m) release clause that activates in January 2025, though Getafe may accept a €15-20 million fee this summer.
Sources indicate Uche is keen about a potential Premier League move, with Leeds’ ambitious project following their promotion particularly appealing, despite interest from Serie A clubs.
Leeds have prioritised midfield reinforcements, signing players like Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach, but Uche remains a target to bolster their attack alongside forwards Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe.
The expected departure of young striker Joe Gelhardt further underlines the need for attacking depth.
In a potential sign of progress, Uche was absent from Getafe’s preseason trip to Valencia, fueling speculation that he has been granted permission to finalise a transfer.
With his technical flair, physicality, and growing top-flight experience, Uche could be a transformative addition for Leeds as they prepare for the Premier League.
With the transfer still open, Nigerians will be watching closely to see if the Elland Road club can turn their interest into a concrete acquisition.
