Boniface, 24, has just returned to training with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, now under the management of former Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag.

Despite suffering a muscular injury that sidelined him in November 2024, the Nigerian striker netted 11 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions before his setback.

Now back in full training, Boniface is the subject of intense transfer speculation.

Milan had opened exploratory talks with Boniface’s camp last week and are reportedly ramping up efforts, aware that prising him from Leverkusen — where he remains under contract until June 2028 — will come at a steep cost.

Milan is expected to continue negotiations with Leverkusen as they work to finalise their new No. 9 ahead of the campaign.

The prospect of Victor Boniface joining Samuel Chukwueze at the San Siro is generating buzz among Nigerian football fans.

Chukwueze, who joined AC Milan in July 2023, is a familiar face to Boniface from their time together in the Super Eagles squad.

Milan are also understood to be monitoring other options in attack, including Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Genk’s Tolu Arokodare — another Nigerian in their sights.
