Barcelona star reveals why he snubbed Barcelona for LALIGA stay
Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez said that he had always intended to stay at the club, despite keen interest from Premier League big spenders Chelsea.
Chelsea's interest
As Pulse Sports reported, the Blues were keenly interested in signing the 22-year-old midfielder and even tabled an official bid during the recently closed transfer window.
Despite rumours that they were prepared to pay up to €70 million to sign the Spain international, however, they only bid €40 million, and Barcelona did not accept it.
There were rumours that Fermin was considering leaving Barcelona due to personal issues with a member of the Blaugrana team, but he has now established that playing for the LALIGA champions was his priority.
What Fermin said
“Well, in the end my priority has always been to be at Barça,” he said, per Football Espana. “I arrived when I was 12 years old; it was my dream to be here, to be able to reach the first team.
“It’s always a compliment that there is interest from other clubs, but the truth is that I always had the idea of staying at Barça and being able to succeed here.
“Not only this week; since I arrived in the first team, I have felt very loved by the Catalans. It is grateful that for them he is an important player for Barça.”
