Arsenal youngster Nwaneri scores first UCL goal as Gunners stamp automatic ticket
The Gunners confirmed their qualification in their previous game against Dinamo Zagreb after defeating the Croatian side 3-0.
They completed the job in Spain with a 2-1 win over Girona, ending the first round in third position on the table.
As it happened
Mikel Arteta made several changes to Arsenal's match with Girona. Neto started in goal for the first time this season with David Raya not in the squad.
The first half gave a lot of attacking threat and produced three goals, with Girona taking the lead from a counter-attack that was converted by Arnaut Danjuma.
However, Arsenal responded with two goals from Jorginho and Nathan Nwaneri to give the Gunners the lead.
The visitors looked confident in the second half and had possession of the game but could not get another goal to seal off the game, with Raheem Sterling missing from the penalty spot.
Arteta’s men held on until the final whistle, with the result sealing an automatic spot to the next round of the competition.
