In a light-hearted moment during the pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League final clash with Tottenham, manager Ruben Amorim faced an unexpected quip from captain Bruno Fernandes about job pressure.

The question arose after Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, expressed uncertainty about his future in London, regardless of the outcome of the final.

With both teams sharing identical records this season, a reporter in a video posted by BBCMOTD, asked Amorim if he was surprised to escape similar scrutiny.

Before Amorim could respond, Fernandes, who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, interjected with a playful, “He is (under pressure).”

Laughing, the United captain added, “Who told you he is not? He is.” The room erupted in laughter, and Amorim joined in before delivering a witty retort: “He wants my job.”

“‘He will be very, very good (coach), but he has to work on his mindset. He doesn’t know how to deal with people,” he added.

The interaction showed the strong bond between Amorim and Fernandes, with the manager humorously suggesting his captain has ambitions to take his place in the dugout.

Despite the jest, Fernandes’ leadership on the pitch has been decisive for United, guiding them to the Europa League final.

Meanwhile, Amorim’s comments subtly acknowledged the pressures of management while deflecting with humour, showing his ease in handling media scrutiny.

With Manchester United and Tottenham prepared for the high-stakes final, the focus remains on the pitch, but Fernandes’ cheeky interruption and Amorim’s playful response have added a moment of levity to the build-up.

Whether Fernandes is truly eyeing a future in coaching remains to be seen, but for now, his sights are set on leading United to European glory under Amorim’s guidance.

United and Spurs have struggled in the Premier League this season, sitting 16th and 17th, respectively, ahead of the season-defining final in Europe, where both teams have found unusual joy.

While the imroving Red Devils are hoping for a second Europa League crown and the first under Amorim, Ange’s Spurs are looking to end a 17-year trophy drought.
