Former Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo has lauded Victor Osimhen as one of the elite strikers in world football, emphasising the need for Nigerians to properly recognise and appreciate their own talent.

Ighalo, who famously had a loan spell at Manchester United in 2020, has often acted as a mentor figure for Osimhen, offering advice and support.

He has previously urged Osimhen to consider a move to the English Premier League, believing it to be the "biggest stage" for a player of his caliber.

Ighalo who was the 2019 AFCON top scorer enjoyed a successful career spanning across Europe and Asia, expressed strong confidence in Osimhen's mental fortitude and future career trajectory.

"We underrate our own African players and potential, but if you want to search the world now for a proper goal scorer. you will mention his name," Ighalo stated, referring to Osimhen's prolific scoring record.

"I think Victor is mentally strong,” the former Super Eagles star added.

Osihmen loan spell at Galatasary

Osimhen who spent the just concluded season on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli ehere he scored 37 goals and eight assists in 41 games.

The Super Eagles striker has consistently been a subject of intense transfer speculation, with top European clubs reportedly vying for his signature.

His impressive career includes leading Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years in the 2022-2023 season, where he was also the league's top scorer with 26 goals.
