African Giants Eye Kaizer Chiefs Striker as Potential Transfer Target
Kaizer Chiefs' on-loan striker, Khanyisa Mayo, has reportedly captured the attention of Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans SC, who are considering a move for the forward.
Reports from Tanzania indicate that Young Africans, also known as Yanga, have placed Mayo on their transfer wishlist.
The club is looking to reinforce its attack following a season where their forwards have delivered inconsistent performances, despite the team's overall success in domestic and continental competitions.
Yanga's current striking options, Andy Boyeli and Prince Dube, have accounted for a combined four goals this season, while another forward, Clement Mzize, has been sidelined with an injury. This has prompted the club to explore new additions to its frontline.
Yanga SC Targeting Khanyisa Mayo
According to an insider, Mayo is one of three primary targets for the Tanzanian club. Yanga is reportedly prioritising two other players and will only pursue Mayo if they are unable to secure their preferred options.
"Depu, Dala, and Mayo. These three are targeted by Young Africans," a source revealed, according to Soccer Laduma.
"Depu is from Angola and was the top scorer at COSAFA 2024. He now plays for Radomiak in Poland. Gerson Dala is at Al Wakrah in Qatar. So these two are the main targets for Yanga, and if they are missed, then Khanyisa Mayo is the option."
This is not the first time Yanga has shown interest in the former Bafana Bafana international. Another source confirmed that the club was keen on signing him before his move from Cape Town City to Algerian club CR Belouizdad.
"Even before he left Cape Town City for CR Belouizdad, Yanga was one of the Tanzanian clubs that were also interested in his services," the source stated.
Mayo is currently on a season-long loan at Kaizer Chiefs from CR Belouizdad, with Amakhosi holding an option to make the deal permanent. Since joining the Soweto giants, he has scored one goal in six appearances.
