African Games champions lead respectable Nigerian list of track and field athletes for Islamic Games in Saudi Arabia
Ahead of the sixth edition of the Islamic Games in Saudi Arabia, Team Nigeria has entered 24 track and field athletes, led by reigning African Games champions.
The Nigerian team, which is a blend of youth and experience, includes multiple African senior, junior, and youth championship medalists, who are scheduled to compete from November 17-20.
Top on the list is African record holder in the women's Discus throw Chioma Onyekere-Lyons and Commonwealth bronze medallist Obiageri Amaechi, who both competed at the World Championships in Tokyo in September.
Also included are veteran 400m runner Patience George and reigning African champion in the hammer throw Sade Olatoye.
In the men's throwing events, Divine Oladipo and Samuel Kure are the only entrants expected to fight for a medal.
Rising stars Chioma Nweke, Iyanuoluwa Bada, Caleb John, and James Emmanuel have been entered in the sprints, as well as Tokyo Olympics 100m finalist Enoch Adegoke.
