African Club signs Champions League winner

Champions League winner Hakim Ziyech has completed a landmark move back to his homeland, signing with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old playmaker reportedly turned down interest from La Liga club Sevilla to embark on his first-ever spell in Moroccan domestic football.

Wydad Casablanca confirmed the high-profile signing, bringing one of the nation's most celebrated footballing talents home.

Ziyech, who recently departed Qatari side Al-Duhail, has signed a contract until 2027 with an option for an additional year.

The club announced the transfer with a social media post declaring, "The world waits... The wizard is here, Ziyech at Wydad."

Club president Hicham Ait Mena described the move as one "driven by national pride," noting that negotiations were "smooth and straightforward."

He added, "He made it clear he wanted to play for his country even though he had a few attractive offers on the table."

Ziyech is expected to arrive in Casablanca next week for his official presentation before joining his new teammates for training.

After a career spent entirely in Europe and a brief stint in Qatar, Ziyech's return is seen as a chance to reconnect with his roots and revitalise a career that has been hampered by injuries and inconsistent form.
