AFCON 2027: Talanta Stadium Advances with Pitch Levelling and LED Installations
The journey toward the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has reached a critical milestone at the Talanta Sports City stadium.
As of March 2026, two major developments headline the recent progress, including the finalisation of ground levelling and the visible installation of LED advertising board frameworks on the second stand.
Talanta Sports City Stadium: Precision at Pitch Level
The core of any world-class stadium is its playing surface, and the "ground leveling" phase is now officially complete. This process involved moving thousands of cubic meters of earth to create a perfectly flat sub-base, essential for the GrassMaster hybrid turf system being installed.
The levelling ensures that the pitch meets the rigorous CAF and FIFA standards. With the levelling done, the stadium is now ready for the final layers of sand, gravel, and the specialised organic matter required for the hybrid grass to take root.
Talanta Sports City Stadium: LED Advertising Progression
While the ground crew works below, the tech crew is busy on the tiers. Significant progress has been made on the second stand, where the mounting of the LED advertising board frameworks is now clearly visible.
Unlike traditional stadiums that use static boards, the Talanta Sports City Stadium is being fitted with continuous digital ribbons. These LED boards on the second stand serve a dual purpose as they provide dynamic, high-visibility branding for global sponsors and are integrated into the stadium’s ‘smart’ ecosystem, capable of displaying real-time match stats, VAR decisions, and crowd-prompting graphics.
The stadium's design ensures these boards are visible from every camera angle, maximizing the broadcasting value for the upcoming tournament. With handover expected in just a few weeks, Nairobi is nearly ready to welcome the soul of African football.
