AFCON 2023: Cameroon boss Song downplays Eto’o’s influence ahead of Nigeria clash
In a recent press conference, Cameroon's national football team coach, Rigobert Song, took a firm stance to clarify his role and the influence of Samuel Eto'o, the team's president and legendary former player.
With the team gearing up for a crucial round of 16 matches, Song's words come at a pivotal moment.
Clarifying Roles and Responsibilities
Rigobert Song made it unequivocally clear: he is the one in charge. Addressing media speculations, he stated, “I am the coach and I bear full responsibility for my decisions. We remain focused despite the rumors and assumptions.”
The coach also shed light on Samuel Eto'o's role, painting him as a passionate figure whose locker room presence is about sharing his zeal for the game rather than dictating terms.
“Samuel Eto'o is passionate, he loves what he does. When he comes into the locker room, it is not to impose something, but rather to share his passion,” Song clarified, as reported by Africa Sports.
He further noted that his reporting to Eto'o, as the president, is a matter of protocol and does not imply any undue influence on his coaching decisions.
As Cameroon prepares to face Nigeria in a much-anticipated match at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, there's a buzz of excitement with the return of Vincent Aboubakar from injury.
