Ademola Lookman: Ex-Real Madrid manager claims Atalanta will struggle without Super Eagles star

Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has expressed concerns about Atalanta's chances in the upcoming 2024-25 UEFA Champions League, especially if they lose key players like Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman.

The former AC Milan and Juventus manager shared his insights on Atalanta's prospects for the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

With the group stage draw just around the corner, Capello discussed the strengths and potential vulnerabilities of the five Serie A clubs participating in the competition, including Atalanta.

Speaking about Atalanta’s chances against Europe’s elite, Capello said, "They [Atalanta] can be the underdogs. It’s a team that not even top European clubs want to meet because they are tricky.

“Transfers may have an impact. If Koopmeiners and Lookman leave after injuries to Scamacca and Scalvini, it would be tough for Gasperini."

Nigeria international Lookman has been at the centre of transfer speculation in recent weeks, with the Super Eagles forward missing Atalanta's opening Serie A match of the season against Lecce, fuelling rumours about his potential departure.

While Lookman has since resumed training with La Dea, his future at the club remains uncertain, with several clubs still keeping tags on the winger.

Paris Saint-Germain were reportedly in talks to sign Lookman last week, but the French champions were unwilling to meet Atalanta’s asking price.

This hesitation has opened the door for other suitors, including Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli and Premier League club Arsenal, both of whom are keen to bolster their attacking options with the Super Eagles star.
