Lookman's Champions League heroics: Eagles star breaks silence after missing award

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has taken to social media to express his thoughts after a stellar performance for Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League, despite missing out on the Man of the Match award. 

The Nigerian international played a crucial role in Atalanta's 2-0 victory against Stuttgart in Germany on Wednesday night, maintaining the club's unbeaten start to the season.

Lookman, who has thrived under the management of Gian Piero Gasperini, scored the opening goal of the match, further solidified his reputation as one of Europe's better stars. 

This season, he has already netted seven goals and provided five assists in just 13 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta.

Despite his impressive display, Lookman was edged out for the man-of-the-match accolade by teammate Isak Hien, a decision that surprised many. 

In response, Lookman shared images from his celebrations on social media with a simple caption: “Last night in Stuttgart,” reflecting his focus on team success rather than individual accolades.

Lookman's transformation since joining Atalanta has been remarkable. Previously struggling to find consistent form in the Premier League, he has blossomed into a key player for the Serie A side. 

His ability to score and create opportunities has made him a key part of Atalanta's attacking setup under Gian Piero Gasperini, earning him recognition as one of the best players in Europe.

As the Nigerian continues to shine on the pitch, he remains a vital asset for both Atalanta and the Super Eagles.

Lookman headlined a list of 22 players released by coach Augustine Eguavoen for the final phase of the AFCONQ2025 later this month.
