Just two days after Ademola Lookman's historic Europa League final heroics with Atalanta, Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella’s Bayer Leverkusen have bounced back in style to complete a remarkable domestic double.

The Bundesliga side, featuring Nigerian forwards Boniface and Tella, defeated a resolute Kaiserslautern 1-0 in the DFB-Pokal final on Saturday evening.

The victory meant Leverkusen became the first team in German football history to navigate an entire domestic season unbeaten, a remarkable achievement.

But Leverkusen's victory was not just celebrated by the club and its players alone - two other Bundesliga teams also had a vested interest in the outcome.

Hoffenheim and FC Heidenheim both finished in the Europa League and Europa Conference League spots respectively this season. 

And they were relying on Leverkusen to get the job done in the cup final to secure their European places.

Sure enough, Leverkusen's victory ensured Hoffenheim would play in the Europa League while Heidenheim will make their continental debut in the Europa Conference League next season.

It was a bittersweet few days for Nigerian football fans, with Lookman's heroics for Atalanta quickly followed by Boniface and Tella leading Leverkusen to a historic domestic double.

The Bundesliga champions have certainly bounced back in style after the disappointment of their Europa League final defeat, with their Nigerian stars playing a crucial role in their unprecedented achievement.

However, only former Southampton and Burnley man, Tella, made an appearance in the final as a second half substitute while Boniface watched on as a spectator.
