Nigel Amasita was the man of the moment, scoring a hat-trick as Kenya beat Nigeria 34-10 in their opening Olympic qualifying match in Zimbabwe.

Kenya Sevens have got their Olympic 2024 qualifying campaign off to a flier after beating Nigeria 34-10 in their opening Pool B match of the Rugby Africa Sevens match played at the Harare Sports Club in Harare, Zimbabwe on Saturday morning.

Shujaa would have to sustain early Nigerian pressure before going ahead after Tony Omondi played in Vincent Onyala for the game’s opening try. Omondi’s conversion took the score to 7-0 before Nigeria responded with an unconverted try.

Nigel Amaitsa, who has been in sizzling form at club level with Strathmore, showed his trickery on the feet, some quick footwork seeing him land his marker on his backside before crossing over under the posts, Omondi adding the twos for a 14-5 lead.

Straight from the restart, Shujaa made it 19 when Kelvin Wekesa picked up the ball and sprayed it on the opposite side, with Onyala completing his brace at the break.

Amaitsa would land a second half brace in between Festus Shiasi’s try to put Shujaa 34-5 up before Nigeria landed a late try as the game ended 34-10.

Shujaa wlll now play Namibia at 1:50 PM EAT.
