Mutai has heaped praise on Harlequin’s new kid on the block Cornelius Mokoro, with more superlatives from another supporter coming his way.

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) chairman Alexander ‘Sasha’ Mutai has heaped praise on Kenya Harlequin scrum-half Cornelius Mokoro following a stellar start to his Kenya Cup career.

Mokoro was arguably the Man of the Match as Harlequin smashed Mwamba 40-10, with the diminutive number nine getting a hand in two smartly taken tries.

The former Chipu and Morans player started by playing for Harlequin’s Eric Shirley Shield (ESS) side, but was promoted to the senior team and made his debut against Homeboyz earlier this month, but has displayed the maturity of a player 10 years his senior.

Speaking to Sports Eye during the match between Mwamba and Harlequin, Mutai heaped praise on Mokoro, highlighting three things that make him a special talent.

“If you are to judge the Man of the Match, it would have to be the number nine playing for Kenya Harlequins,” Mutai said.

“I think he has got vision, is quite decisive, is a good kicker, his thinking (is good), he has got a rugby brain.”

One supporter also heaped praise on the dreadlocked player, tipping him to have a bright future ahead.

“It has been long since I saw a scrum half in Kenya who can manage the game around the base the way he did in that game.

“Most of our scrum halves have become stereotyped, where they just pass the ball from the breakdown and pass it out.

“But the way he is managing the breakdown and playing off his guys is fantastic and I think there is a bright future for the young man.”

The part-time chef has revealed his ultimate aim is to earn a call up to the senior national sides
