Kabras Sugar RFC, facing elimination after a narrow 17-15 loss to Mwamba RFC, bounced back in style to beat MMUST 25-5 and clinch a place in the Main Cup quarterfinals.

Winger Lamec Ambetsa was the star of the show, crossing the line twice — including a searing breakaway try from deep inside Kabras’ own half — as the Sugarmen proved their mettle when it mattered most.

Elsewhere, KCB Rugby were at their ruthless best, demolishing Nondescripts RFC 52-0 in their final pool match. Floyd Wabwire bagged a hat-trick, with Vincent Onyala and Festus Shiasi also shining as the Bankers completed a perfect Day One, scoring freely and conceding barely any points.

Kenya Harlequin, determined to make a mark this season, edged Nakuru RFC 15-12 in a closely contested finale to Pool A. Charles Kinyanjui and Lucky Dewald powered the Quins into the knockout phase unbeaten, fending off a late surge from the home team.

Menengai Oilers also finished the day unbeaten after exacting revenge on Strathmore Leos, who had beaten them in the previous leg. A 19-7 win, led by Denis Abukuse and Daniel Kipchirchir, ensured the Oilers qualified as Pool B winners and sent a strong message to title hopefuls.

Despite a valiant 14-10 win over Mwamba, Impala RFC missed out on a Cup spot due to an earlier draw and now drop into the Challenge Trophy, alongside Daystar Falcons, Kisumu RFC, and others.
