“It was a great final…the levels today were high and the Rwandan team was a worthy opponent. The tournament was great and being our first time here, we did not think things would turn out in our favour.

"We like it and it has helped us to improve in so many things. We have learned a lot, especially from the Rwandan team. When we go back home, we shall not rest on our laurels. We are so happy to have won the tournament but it was very tough

"Winning this trophy means a lot to us since everybody at home was banking on us to impress and we are happy to have made an impact,” Atuka said during a post-game interview.

Kenya Pipeline started their campaign on a high, beating Uganda’s Kampala Capital City Authority 3-0 in their opening match.

The first set saw Kenya Pipeline stun the Ugandans 25-19 and they continued pressing their foot on the gas as they beat them in the second set, winning 25-15. Kenya Pipeline also took the third set, winning 25-21.

In their second match, Kenya Pipeline were also in a class of their own as they annihilated Rwanda Revenue Authority 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, and 25-13).

In their third game, they took top honours, thrashing the Rwanda National Police 3-1. They took the first set 25-16 before the Rwandan charge took over and claimed the second set 25-23.

Kenya Pipeline then went back for the third set recharged and emerged victorious, winning 25-14 before taking the fourth set narrowly (25-23).
