The Millers extended their unbeaten run over the weekend with a win over GSU.

National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) captain Timothy Kirimi is bullish about the team retaining their Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league title.

The reigning champions started off the year on a high following a massive win over General Service Unit (GSU).

NCPB thrashed GSU 32-20 to secure a deserved win and get their title defense off to the perfect start.

NCPB are now basking on top of the league table with 32 points as Ulinzi come second with 28 points. GSU are placed third on the table with 26 points.

In the first half of the match, NCPB were leading by a six-point buffer against GSU who had only acquired eight points. The second half saw NCPB play a tactical game that propelled them to victory courtesy of top scorer Nicholas Okore.

Erick Nyamweya of GSU had also put up a good fight to try and bridge the gap but time was not on their side.

NCPB are set to face Ulinzi and Black Mamba in their next fixtures.

"We are now focusing on the next matches and we just want to take a game at a time and hopefully emerge victorious in all the two," he said.

He noted that GSU was a formidable opponent considering the team consists of young players and they had no choice but to bank on their good game management skills.

"Our attacks and ball management were good. GSU is a good team and their training is also a bit rougher," he said.

Going forward, Kirimi noted that the coaches will identify their mistakes and ensure they are fit and ready for their next matches.

In other matches played, Nairobi City County suffered a 23-25 loss to the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) while Black Mamba registered a significant win (32-25) over Kenyatta University.

On their part, the Technical University of Kenya defeated Young City 26-20.
