Regretting Dream Move? ‘There Were Things I Could Not Foresee’ - Lewis Hamilton on Ferrari Struggles

Lewis Hamilton admits there are some problems he did not anticipate when he signed up for Ferraris as his struggles with the team continues.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton admitted he's encountered unforeseen challenges since his high-profile move to Ferrari earlier this year.

The Briton joined the Scuderia after 12 seasons with Mercedes, hoping to rekindle the championship-winning form that brought him so much success with the Silver Arrows over the past decade. However, Hamilton's results so far have fallen short of the high expectations set at the start of the year.

One of the primary difficulties Hamilton has faced with the Ferrari car is the feel he gets from the brakes. Ferrari utilizes Brembo braking systems, whereas the seven-time champion was accustomed to Carbon Industries brakes at Mercedes. Additionally, Ferrari relies heavily on engine braking, a technique barely used at Mercedes.

In an interview, Hamilton confessed that this was one of the challenges he couldn't have anticipated during his preparations for the Maranello switch. However, the Briton believes that the tough start to his Ferrari tenure has brought the team closer together, preparing them for a brighter future.

"I don't remember every single season, to be honest, so I can't make exact comparisons, but I'm sure there have been many seasons I've found difficult. I remember 2009 was tough, 2010 and 2011 weren't great, and 2012 was a pivotal moment for me. Then, of course, we have 2022 and 2023," said Hamilton.

"So there are plenty of other examples, but back then I was in a different phase of my life. Now, I'm living my dream, driving for Ferrari. Of course, I had all of last year to think about it and prepare, but there are things you just can't foresee. There's a lot to adjust to, both on my part and the team's. They've really done everything they can to welcome me.

"Obviously, there are cultural differences too. Fred (Vasseur) recently commented that perhaps the team underestimated my arrival and the car issues we've faced this year. So it's a combination of these things. But honestly, the harder it is, the better it can make you.

This year is tough for everyone in the team, but it's preparing us for better days. We'll be stronger after these difficult first six months. I'm very excited and motivated for the battle ahead; I believe I have the best people around me," Hamilton further said.
