The event is one of the greatest sporting contests hosted in the country and it is scheduled for Thursday, June 22 to Sunday, 25 in Nakuru County.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has promised that this year’s WRC Safari Rally will definitely be one to leave tongues wagging.

The event is one of the greatest events hosted in the country and it is scheduled for Thursday, June 22 to Sunday, 25 in Nakuru County.

Namwamba wants this year’s rally to be a historical one and he believes the Local Organising Committee is capable of pulling off a great event.

“As international as it is, I have always insisted and I will repeat that this event must have a unique, incredible, and special Kenyan flavour," Namwamba said on Friday.

"It must not be an event where we fly in elite cars and elite international drivers and they zoom around for three days and then fly out and we call it a day.

"This event must be an international event with a strong indelible and unequivocal Kenyan flavour,” Namwamba added, during the official unveiling of KCB's sponsorship for the 2023 Safari Rally Kenya project.

He added that the ‘Kenyan flavour’ will also be felt with the presence of Kenyan drivers, including national champion Karan Patel, Evans Kavisi and Nikhil Sachania.

Namwamba also called upon the masses to show up for the rally and support local talent since entry is free.

“I am happy that we are giving this rally a Kenyan feel through the branding, support to drivers and even the actual local drivers who will be participating," the CS said.

"We want the fans to be part of this incredible experience. We want you to come and enjoy the spectacle of rallying. We want you to come and be part of the ‘sherehe’ that accompanies the rally."

He added that a ‘Hustler Bazaar’ has also been introduced to be of great benefit to the entrepreneurs.

“We are going to have special places at the flag-off point (Uhuru Park) and at the main event areas in the Naivasha ecosystem where we will open up spaces for traders,” he said.
