Harper made his Kenya debut in a tense 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, showing glimpses of pace and potential.

Harambee Stars defender Vincent Harper has expressed his initial nerves ahead of his first appearance for the national team.

The 25-year-old full-back, born in Kenya but previously capped for the England C team at non-league level, joined the Harambee Stars for the October FIFA World Cup qualifiers, taking a major step in his international career.

Harper’s call-up by head coach Benni McCarthy is a boost for the Harambee Stars as they prepare for two crucial Group F fixtures.

The Walsall man has impressed at club level with his energy, versatility, and attacking contributions from the left flank.

“Delighted to have made my Kenya debut, an experience I will never forget! Lots of lessons learned but ready to go again! 🇰🇪 ⚽️ ❤️ @harambee_stars,” Harper wrote on Instagram, reflecting on the milestone.

The left-footed defender has earned a reputation as a touchline-hugging wing-back who stretches opposition defenses with pace.

His attacking instincts, combined with defensive work rate, make him a key option for McCarthy’s squad.

In video game terms, his Acceleration (~88) and Sprint Speed (~92) underscore his ability to burst forward in attack and recover quickly in defense.

Harper made his Kenya debut in a hard-fought 1-0 win over Burundi at the Intwari Stadium in Bujumbura.

Ryan Ogam’s strike gave the Harambee Stars a morale-boosting victory, lifting Kenya to third place in Group F. The first leg had ended in a 1-1 draw, with Duke Abuya scoring for Kenya.

Harper’s personal outing, however, was a mixed bag.

He picked up a yellow card in the 16th minute for a rash challenge on Bienveue Kanakimana and appeared tense during his 45 minutes on the pitch.

At the beginning of the second half, head coach Benni McCarthy substituted him for Timothy Ouma, looking to stabilize the left flank.

Even in his brief stint, Harper showed flashes of the pace and attacking energy he is known for.

Harper’s addition provides McCarthy with depth and flexibility as the Harambee Stars prepare for their next match against the Ivory Coast.
