Gor Mahia’s good run has left their coach fearing the worst as a core of his squad links up with Harambee Stars for international duty.

While Gor Mahia players are looking forward to national team duty, their coaches are keeping fingers crossed that they will come back unscathed.

Gor Mahia are enjoying a good run of form, having gone six matches without a loss, winning five over that period, including a 2-0 victory over champions Kenya Police on Sunday.

However, their run will be disrupted somewhat with the upcoming international window which will see a number of their players link up with the national team with seven of them set to join the Harambee Stars squad.

Gor Mahia assistant coach Kobi Bismark-Mensah admits while it is good to have as many as possible players out on international duty, it has its drawbacks, especially to a team that is enjoying a good run of form.

What is the Gor Mahia Coach Wary About?

“We have several regular players in our team that play for the national team; it is good, but when there is a break like this, especially when they are not playing home games, they travel here and there. Before they come, they will be a bit tired,” Bismark-Mensah told the club’s media.

“Sometimes it affects their strength, but at the end of the day, it is also good for them to get that exposure. We just have to manage it and make sure we get the best out of them.”

Gor Mahia have goalkeeper Byrne Omondi, defenders Sylvester Owino, Michael Kibwage, Bryton Onyona, midfielders Alpha Onyango and Austin Odhiambo as well as winger Shariff Musa called up to the Harambee Stars squad.

The seven will be hoping to play a part in coach Benni McCarthy’s squad for friendly matches against Equatorial Guinea and Senegal this month.

All of them are regulars for the 21-time champions and started Sunday’s match, playing a key role in the victory over the law enforcers.
