The Harambee Stars goalkeeper has expressed uncertainty about his future as he awaits a decision from FKF amid ongoing match-fixing investigations.

Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has opened up about life after his suspension as he remains in the dark about his comeback to the world of football.

Patrick Matasi was provisionally suspended from all football activity in the country for 90 days, long overdue, amid ongoing inquiries into alleged match manipulation.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) suspended the 37-year-old shortly after confirming the launch of an official investigation.

Once a football star, Patrick Matasi is now unaware of what lies ahead as he waits for the Football Kenya Federation to give him an answer.

The former Tusker FC star told Pulse Sports Kenya that things have not gotten any better on his side, and at the moment, he is not sure of what to expect.

“Not yet,” Patrick Matasi responded when asked if things were getting any better on his side.

“I’m still waiting for the federation to give me a green light. I’m not sure about what the future holds,” Patrick Matasi added.

As quoted by the BBC Sport at the time, Kakamega Homeboyz owner, Cleophas Shimanyula, said: "He was shocked at what he was seeing in the video and he told me he doesn't know about match-fixing. Kakamega Homeboyz is against any form of match manipulation."

Patrick Matasi Career Progression

Patrick Matasi began his journey at Kabras United in 2009 after transitioning from handball. He made his FKF Premier League debut in 2011 with AFC Leopards, where he spent four successful years, winning the Mozzart Bet Cup in 2013.

A memorable, if controversial, moment came during the 2013 Mashemeji Derby against Gor Mahia when Patrick Matasi was seen waving to fans while time-wasting, a tactic that ultimately backfired as Gor Mahia equalised, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

Patrick Matasi then moved to Posta Rangers in 2015, helping them gain promotion to the top tier in 2016 and earning his national team debut in 2017.

However, controversy followed him. An incident in a 2014 match against his former club, AFC Leopards, saw fans attacking him both on the pitch and later at a bus station.

He eventually left Posta Rangers in 2018 after a dispute regarding employment with the parent state corporation.

A brief stint at Tusker FC preceded a move to Ethiopian giants Saint George FC in 2018. Despite staying until 2021, Patrick Matasi made fewer than 25 appearances.

During this period, he played a key role in Kenya's qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), their first appearance in 15 years. Although Kenya exited in the group stage, Matasi's penalty save against Sadio Mane in a 3-0 loss to Senegal remains a highlight.

Patrick Matasi rejoined Tusker FC in 2021, helping them win the league title in the 2021/2022 season. A falling out with coach Robert Matano led to limited playing time and a subsequent transfer to Kenya Police FC in March 2023.

He found his form at Kenya Police, playing a crucial role in their historic Mozzart Bet Cup victory, earning the tournament's best goalkeeper award. This victory also secured Kenya Police FC's first-ever qualification for continental football.

Despite these achievements, Matasi's time at Kenya Police was marred by questionable goals conceded. He eventually joined Kakamega Homeboyz before his suspension.
