Born in the region of Marseille, Luca Zidane has solid foundations within the French national machinery, having played for the country at junior levels.

But his loyalty to Algeria runs deep in his father's lineage, with Zinedine's parents emigrating from the Kabylie region of Algeria to France.

Algeria is poised to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup in North America, with a clinching qualifier against Somalia scheduled to happen next month.

In the event of Algeria qualifying, Luca Zidane will have the opportunity to tread in his father's footsteps of competing in a World Cup, though this will be for a different nation.

A Family Legacy Forged in Madrid

The Zidane name is as close to being linked with football excellence as any, particularly at Real Madrid.

Luca has three siblings, and all four were nurtured through their ability in the hallowed halls of the Real Madrid academy.

His professional footballing career has seen him play two senior matches for Real Madrid and gain La Liga experience at Rayo Vallecano.

He then went on to bring the Spanish second tier down with him, playing for Eibar throughout 2022 before agreeing a move to his current club, Granada, in 2024.

A New Direction

Playing for Algeria is an emotional decision, not only because it comes in the wake of his father's illustrious history with the French national team.

Zinedine Zidane is revered as possibly the best player of all time, scoring two goals in France's World Cup final victory over Brazil in 1998.

He also featured in the 2006 World Cup final, among the players red-carded during his last professional match, as France lost to Italy in a penalty shootout.
