The Ugandan Premier League side has explained why they have chosen to play Kakamega Homeboyz in an international friendly.

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Kakamega Homeboyz is leaving no stone unturned in its preparation for the 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup.

The reigning champions of the FKF Cup have chosen to test their mettle against Uganda's KCCA FC in a friendly match scheduled for Friday, 4th August at MTN Omondi Stadium in Kampala.

The decision to face KCCA stems from the Ugandan side's impressive track record in continental competitions and their shared ambitions for success on the African stage.

Homeboyz will go head-to-head with Libya's Al Hilal in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Round.

"We chose to play against Kakamega Homeboyz because both clubs have continental ambitions and will be a perfect test ahead of the CAF games that start in August," stated the KCCA FC management.

For KCCA, the match will also serve as an opportunity to showcase their newly-signed players and their coaching staff led by Sergio Traquil.

With Homeboyz coming off an impressive victory in the FKF Cup, the Ugandan side recognizes the importance of a challenging friendly to fine-tune their strategies and build team cohesion before their upcoming fixtures.

Homeboyz, on the other hand, has been hard at work during their three weeks of pre-season training in Western Kenya.

Head coach Patrick Odhiambo is fully aware that the continental stage poses a different level of competition, and they are leaving no room for complacency.

The friendly against KCCA is expected to be an intense encounter, with both teams looking to test their team cohesion and players ahead of the crucial CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers.

The encounter will also provide KCCA with valuable insights as they gear up to face the winner between Tunisia's Olympique de Beja and Libya's Abo Selim in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Ugandan side has been granted a bye from the first round, and they are keen on making a strong impression in the continental competition.
