The former AFC Leopards player and coach has berated his side’s inability to concentrate well for their last-minute loss to Ulinzi Stars.

Ulinzi Stars head coach Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani has castigated his side for their tendency to have concentration lapses following their last-minute 1-0 loss to Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday.

Oscar Paul came off the bench to give Homeboyz all the three points in the dying seconds of the match, which now leaves the Soldiers lying perilously close to the relegation places.

Speaking after the match, Kimani admitted that, although he felt both sides dealt well and that he had done his homework at working on defending set pieces against the Abana Beingo, concentration lapses effectively threw their preparations for the game out of the window.

“I think both teams played well. We had good chances to score. We knew that one of the places where they might have given us a hard time was through those dead ball situations,” Kimani said.

“I think up until the closing stages, we had managed to inhibit them from being effective in our initial third but in the last minutes, we got too lazy and gave them a chance to get the winning goal.

“Our defenders did not concentrate well and we were made to pay dearly for that.”

Ulinzi Stars have now won four games, drawn one and lost the other seven. Quizzes about whether he was worried that the side’s inconsistent form, Kimani said:

“I cannot say it is because they are still adapting to my methods. We have been together for quite a long time. I think the problem has been concentration lapses which come in the closing stages but the boys are soaking in instructions well.

“They are putting a shift in. It is just a matter of lifting them, that they should not give in easily because a lack of good results leads to a sense of doubt in the squad.

“My technical bench and I will work hard to ensure we find ways to abate these mistakes that we are making on the pitch that are making us commit mistakes as well as to re-inject confidence in them.”
