Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan has once again demonstrated her unwavering support for the country's football by handing the national team, Taifa Stars, a massive financial boost ahead of their crunch 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarter-final clash against Morocco in Dar es Salaam.
The President has awarded the team 200 million Tanzanian shillings (TZS) – equivalent to about Ksh 11.2 million – as motivation before tomorrow’s decisive showdown at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Speaking on behalf of President Samia, Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Palamagamba Kabudi, delivered the package to the Taifa Stars camp yesterday.
“We are here on behalf of President Samia to extend her congratulations for your hard work, discipline and dedication,” said Kabudi.
“The President has been following your journey closely and true to her word, she has decided to award you 200m/- in recognition of your excellence and to inspire you to go even further.”

A Record-Breaking Incentive Trail
Since the CHAN tournament kicked off on August 2, Taifa Stars have raked in a total of 460m/- (Ksh 25.8m) in financial rewards. This includes performance-based incentives of 20m/- for every goal scored and every victory registered.
Kabudi reminded the team of the lucrative government incentives already in place before the competition began.
Taifa Stars stand to earn 1 billion TZS (Ksh 56m) should they clinch the CHAN title, 500m/- (Ksh 28m) for reaching the final, and 200m/- (Ksh 11.2m) for booking a semifinal spot.

Call for Nationwide Support
“This is a national cause. We urge corporate sponsors, fans and stakeholders to stand with Taifa Stars. Together, we can ensure the title remains on Tanzanian soil,” said Kabudi, calling on Tanzanians from all walks of life to back the squad.
