Police have launched investivation into the incidence after the alleged culprit was seen laughing after his vile actions.
A disturbing incident marred the Liga MX match between Monterrey and Tigres at the Estadio BBVA on Sunday, where a fan was caught on camera allegedly urinating into a cup and splashing fans seated below.
The incident, which has sparked outrage among football fans globally, occurred during the intense 3-3 draw between the two rival teams.
A fan, donning the colors of the visiting Tigres, was seen urinating inside a paper coffee cup before dropping its contents onto unsuspecting supporters below. The individual then appeared to laugh and shout at the crowd beneath him.
Mexican authorities have since launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the alleged perpetrator. Authorities plan to review the stadium's security footage and fan-submitted photos, as Mexican regulations require supporters over the age of 12 to submit a selfie and personal data via the Liga MX FAN ID platform before entering the stadium.
In addition to the disturbing off-field incident, fans were treated to an exhilarating match on the pitch. Tigres took an early lead with Juan Brunetta's goal, only for Monterrey to equalize through Luis Romo seven minutes later. Fernando Gorriaran then restored Tigres' lead just before halftime.
