The first half of the match was played yesterday with the second being finished today.

Promotion-chasing Shabana FC were able to put behind the disappointment of losing to SS Assad as they came from behind to beat Mombasa Elite in a National Super League (NSL) clash played at the Gusii Stadium on Friday morning.

After a relatively even first-half encounter yesterday that saw the first half end 1-1, the fixture had to be completed today due to the heavy rains that prevented the game from proceeding to the second half yesterday.

Shabana settled into the game well as Vincent Terminator Nyabuto put them ahead in the 55th minute to set off what would be a rather comfortable display for the hosts.

In the 70th minute, Shabana made their first change of the game, subbing off Nyabuto for George Onyango. In the 79th minute, the hosts would win a penalty which Peter Ogechi expertly converted.

Ogechi’s goal would be the cherry on the well-baked cake for Shabana to give them all three points and make it 42 after 20 games of the season. Mombasa Elite are 10th on 26 points.

Shabana have not taken part in the top flight since being relegated in 2006. They nearly collapsed that year after they launched a legal dispute claiming they belonged to the top flight. So far, they have been on a stellar run of form at home, losing just once this season.
