Report: Barcelona set for massive payout after failing to register Dani Olmo

Pulse Sports reported earlier today that Laliga had rejected Barcelona's registration for Olmo after failing to meet a deadline.

Olmo, who was signed by Barcelona from RB Leipzig in the summer, was only registered temporarily until the end of 2024 because of Barcelona's continued financial difficulties in La Liga.

Following the completion of the year 2024, the Spanish giants are now finding it difficult to register the midfielder for the remainder of the season.

Barcelona might have to deal with a crippling bill that would have a big effect on a team that has been having financial difficulties lately.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona would still have to pay RB Leipzig the entire £50 million that was agreed upon when they purchased the offensive midfield player in the summer.

Furthermore, Olmo would still be eligible to receive the £41 million in salaries he is due for the balance of his contract, which expires in 2030, even if he were to leave.

Barcelona will also miss out on a potential transfer fee if he leaves the club on a free transfer, with his market value worth around £53 million, as per Transfermarkt.

The Spanish club have sold VIP boxes at the Nou Camp, which is undergoing renovations, as one of several ways to close the financial shortfall they are facing.

However, they could only rack up an estimated £87 million from the sale, which is still not enough to meet Laliga requirements.

Barcelona may lose out on a total of £221 million due to the transfer fee, salaries, Olmo's market worth, and unrealised revenue.
