Financially-crippled Nzoia remain rock-bottom of the league following defeat to Bandari despite dominating the hosts in Mombasa but Oduor saw promise in their display.

Nzoia Sugar FC head coach Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor has praised his young charges for their grit and fight in tough climatic conditions against Bandari despite their 1-0 loss on Saturday afternoon.

Before a home crowd, Bandari’s lone goal was scored by Ugandan Umaru Kasumba in the 26th minute when he headed the ball into the net after an assist by James Kinyanjui.

Oduor was delighted with his players’ perseverance despite the low altitude in Mombasa that tends to affect visiting teams.

“The match was good and I thank my players for putting a shift in and managing to cope with the altitude here in Mombasa,” Oduor said.

“They did well against strong opposition. We got a lot of opportunities to score goals but we did not maximise on them."

Ten minutes into the second half, Bandari were close to doubling their lead after Hassan Abdallah's 18-yard shot was saved for a corner by Nzoia's glove man Fred Munyendo.

Nzoia dominated the last quarter of the match but failed to capitalise on the few chances they got.

Oduor has expressed reget that his charges were not able to maximise on the opportunities they created.

“The home team created two chances, converting one, while we created numerous chances but failed to convert any. That was what made the difference in today’s game,” he explained.

The loss for Nzoia means they remain at the bottom of the table with 13 points from 17 games.
