Nairobi City Stars captain Calvin Masawa has admitted that Gor Mahia burst their bubble after they went into Saturday’s game seeking an upset only to end up on the losing side.

Nairobi City Stars captain Calvin Masawa believes they played into Gor Mahia’s hands when they went into Saturday’s match seeking to prove to K’Ogalo that they are good enough.

City Stars have had an impressive run this season which had seen them move to second place on the table with 37 points coming into this weekend’s round of matches and with a chance to cut K’Ogalo’s lead to four points.

However, they ended the match 10 points behind after Benson Omala’s fourth-minute goal proved to be the match winner and Masawa feels they should have perhaps just concentrated on themselves.

“We have had a recent good run and wanted to prove a point to them but it did not work,” Masawa told Azam TV.

“They were clinical, they took their one chance and punished us so it is back to the drawing board.”

His coach Nicholas Muyoti believes the team should not lose hope given they are at a good place as they sit fifth on the standings after 22 matches.

“We have to keep going. In the second half of the season, we have been playing well but not taking our chances recently like today. We have to keep this and things will change,” said Muyoti.

City Stars have seen their momentum slow in the last four matches when they have managed just one win while suffering two defeats, having won a club record seven straight games prior to that.

Simba wa Nairobi also have the second-best attack after scoring 27 goals but they have been porous at the back, conceding 26 goals with only four teams letting in more than them.

Poor finishing has, however, been costing them recently and it was on show again on Saturday when striker Robinson Asenwa missed two glorious chances in the second half after a toothless opening 45 minutes.
