FKFPL Muyoti makes dramatic U-turn on Shabana decision

Muyoti was set to leave high-flying City Stars for Shabana on Monday.

Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti will not be joining Shabana until at least the end of the current season, CEO Patrick Korir has confirmed.

Reports on Saturday claimed that Muyoti was set to ditch City Stars in order to join Shabana, who have been managerless ever since parting ways with Sam Okoth last November.

The Simba wa Nairobi have been impressive this season and find themselves second in the league standings, just seven points behind league leaders Gor Mahia, and their impressive standing contrasts heavily to their relatively tumultuous league finish last year, where they survived relegation.

Korir has confirmed that both parties have mutually agreed to hang on to the relationship until at least the end of the season.

“Yes, it is actually true Shabana had approached him and offered him a deal and he was very candid with us,” Korir said as quoted on Capital Sports.

“ But again, he has a running contract with us until the end of the season and we agreed that for the interest of the team, it would be wise if he stays on until the end,” Korir added.

“It was a very amicable decision between the two parties. At the end of the season, we will have that discussion whether he will leave or we will add him a new contract.”

Korir has revealed that there was a need to maintain consistency in terms of their results, which would only be made possible by having the coach staying.

“We are in the middle of the season, and having your coach leave at this time is very dangerous. We also have a very young squad, and they were beginning to get affected by the news.”

Meanwhile, Korir has made his stance clear on the purported departure of some of his Stars, claiming that certain conditions will have to be met if interested parties want to snatch them away from the club.

“The good thing is, all these players have contracts. There has been interest from all over. Unless we receive a crazy offer, I don’t think any of them will leave. We want to have a consistent squad until the end of the season,” Korir said.
