Madagascar and Morocco are the teams left standing in the CHAN 2024 tournament and here is all you need to know about Saturday’s final at Kasarani Stadium.

The curtains will come down on what has been a memorable 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024) tournament when Morocco and Madagascar contest the final.

Kasarani Stadium will be the place to be as the two nations contest for the trophy and the $3.5 million winners’ prize on offer with fans expected to fill the match venue just as it has been witnessed in Nairobi since the tournament began.

Of the two teams, Morocco are the most experienced, having won the tournament twice, in 2018 and 2022 while Madagascar are looking for their maiden title.

Both sides also bring contracting styles, Morocco known to build from the back and for their sleek passing, while Madagascar prefer to stay solid defensively and catch the opponent on the break.

Journey to the Final

Morocco made it to the final after finishing second in Group A with nine points, one behind Kenya, after starting with a 2-0 win over Angola followed by a 1-0 loss to Kenya after which back-to-back 3-1 wins against Zambia and DR Congo followed.

The Atlas Lions beat Tanzania 1-0 in the quarter-final in Dar es Salaam before overcoming Senegal 5-3 on post-match penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Meanwhile, Madagascar finished second in Group B with seven points, three behind Tanzania, edging out Mauritania for the quarter-final ticket on goal difference, after both sides had been level on points.

At the quarter-final, they edged out co-hosts Kenya 4-3 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time and beat Sudan 1-0 in extra-time at the semi-final to book their place in the final.

CHAN Pedigree

Morocco are the only country to have won CHAN back-to-back, having claimed it in 2018 and 2020. They beat Nigeria 4-0 in the 2018 final, when they hosted the tournament, before silencing Mali 2-0 in Cameroon two years later.

Meanwhile, this is Madagascar’s best run at the tournament as they had finished third in the 2022 edition in Algeria, when they beat Niger 1-0, and it will be historic for the island nation no matter the result at Kasarani Stadium.
