AFC Leopards will now face Compel in the quarter-finals of the FKF Cup after downing Shabana 1-0 in Kisumu.

AFC Leopards managed to overcome a spirited Shabana 1-0 in an FKF Cup clash that took place at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu on Sunday afternoon.

A header by Kayci Odhiambo in the 57th minute was enough to separate the two sides in a game that should have seen more goals scored especially in the first half, with both sides enjoying even spells of domination.

Ingwe started quite brightly and should have gone ahead in the 10th minute when Arthur Gitego’s attempt hit the upright after he managed to get on the end of a well-taken Clifton Miheso free kick.

Jaffari Owiti would miss AFC Leopards' next big chance after Gitego had set him up nicely by sending the ball across goal after he got on the end of an exquisite Hassan Beja pass down the left flank.

In the 31st minute, Miheso had another opportunity to score from another freekick, but his effort just went over the bar, going for power over precision.

Shabana would however start finding their groove as the game went on, with the game fast becoming end-to-end.

Ezekiel Omuri would get fouled inside the box after a ball was drilled right into the box before Vincent Mahiga of AFC Leopards appeared to append the Kenya U18 star, but the referee played on the match, leaving Tore Bobe fans aghast.

In the 43rd minute, another freekick was whipped in by Kayci Odhiambo before it fell onto the head of Gitego, who hit a header that forced Shabana keeper Fredrick Odhiambo into parrying it away towards Musa Oundo’s path, but Oundo’s effort was hit straight into Odhiambo’s hands yet again.

At the beginning of the second half, Owiti, who appeared desperate to make amends for his big miss in the first half, attempted a shot from outside the box after cutting inside from the right flank which went just wide.

Leopards would finally break the deadlock through Kayci Odhiambo in the 57th minute as he towered home a well-taken left-footed free kick by Clifton Miheso to send the fans into frenzy.

A corner whipped in the 88th minute by Shabana caused confusion in the AFC Leopards box, with the ball bouncing forth and back before substitute Kevin Kimani was forced into scrambling the ball away to safety.

In the end, Leopards would hold on to that 1-0 lead to get their much-deserved win. Leopards will now face Compel in the quarter-finals of the FKF Cup at the end of April.
