Maina hit the woodwork and had a decent individual display but could not help FC Koln prevent defeat to Jadon Sancho-inspired Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Kenyan winger Linton Maina could not do anything to prevent struggling FC Koln from being battered by Borussia Dortmund 4-0 at home in a Bundesliga encounter on Saturday afternoon.

Maina did have a decent outing, as he was rated to have given a 7.0 performance by Sofascore as he registered a 0.04 expected goals ratio as his only attempted shot hit the woodwork and a 0.06 expected assists ratio.

He was successful with all his dribble attempts and also did fairly well with his defensive work, making two tackles and interceptions all game.

A big highlight in the game featured fans throwing chocolate coins onto the pitch in protest against an investment proposal by the German Football Association

Supporters from both clubs threw the gold coins during the 12th minute to symbolise their role as the '12th man'.

It led to an eight-minute break in play while players from both teams helped stewards remove the confectionery.

Donyell Malen gave Dortmund the lead in the 12th minute on Saturday before the protests began and hostile chants about the German FA followed throughout the match.

Malen doubled his tally in the second half, adding to Niclas Fullkrug's penalty and a stoppage-time goal from Youssoufa Moukoko.

Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho had won the penalty before Fulkrug converted it but caused controversy moments before as he attempted to snatch the ball away from the German striker.

Dortmund's successive wins have boosted their Champions League hopes, with Terzic's side now level on points with fourth-placed RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Koln are just one point above 18th and their hopes of surviving the league this season are not looking good.
