STARS ABROAD Kenyan star Judith Atieno helps Rwandan side gain promotion

Atieno has scored 37 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions.

Kenyan international Judith Atieno will play her football in Rwanda Women’s Football League next season after Rayon Sports Women secured promotion on Saturday.

The 21-year-old striker netted a brace and provided two assists as her side walloped Nashon FC 10-1, which saw Rayon regain top-flight status.

In October, Otieno joined the Nyamirambo-based side from Mathare Women FC and became the first female Kenyan footballer to play professional football in Rwanda.

In the many matches Atieno featured, she scored 37 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions.

“We have officially been promoted to the Rwanda Women Top Tier League

Next season will be bigger and better. Thank you, and God Bless,” the striker wrote on her Facebook page.

Rayon will now play either APR WFC or Indahangarwa in the second-division final to decide the champions.

Atieno has never been shy in front of as in 2018, she netted 15 goals, and before joining Rayon, she found the back of the net 11 times for the Slum Girls.

Rayon are still in continental for the Peace Cup, as on Wednesday, they booked a place in the last four after eliminating APAER WFC.

The Blues were officially unveiled in 2022, and it has taken them just one season in the second division to finish the campaign unbeaten, hence qualifying for women’s top-flight football in an extraordinary style.
