The Harambee Stars defensive prospect stood tall to help deny Leicester a win in an English Championship clash on Friday afternoon.

Kenyan defender Zak Vyner Onyego was in solid form for Bristol City as Anis Mehmeti's second-half stunner piled more misery on Championship title-chasers Leicester City, beating them 1-0 in the process.

Onyego, who is the reigning Bristol City player of the year, played on the right side of a back three and held his own.

Onyego made five clearances and four tackles and interceptions. He won three of his four areal duels and all two of his ground duels, and was also impressive in possession, underpinned by a big chance he created.

Born to a Kenyan father and and English mother, the 26-year-old remains eligible to play for Harambee Stars should an England career fail to materialise.

Meanwhile, Jamie Vardy missed two crucial opportunities for Leicester City, costing them a chance to regain top spot. Despite two strong penalty appeals for the home side being dismissed, Mehmeti's goal secured a 1-0 victory for Bristol City.

Leicester's loss marks their fourth defeat in six league games, leaving them level with Leeds at the top and just one point ahead of Ipswich. The match garnered attention due to Leicester's legal actions against the leagues.

Bristol City dominated the first half, forcing goalkeeper Mads Hermansen into action. However, Mehmeti's goal proved decisive, giving the home side all three points.

Although Vardy had opportunities to equalise, including a denied goal from substitute Kelechi Iheanacho, Bristol City held on for a significant win in front of their supporters.

Leicester remain level with table toppers Leeds and one point ahead of Ipswich, with both teams playing later.
