FC Talanta confidently stepped onto the pitch on Saturday unknowingly underestimating Bungoma Stars leading to their unexpected exit from the FKF Cup.

FC Talanta head coach Ken Kenyatta openly admitted his team's oversight in underestimating Bungoma Stars which led to their surprising exit from the FKF Cup.

In a match that saw the Premier League side ousted 1-0 by Bungoma Stars, Kenyatta conveyed no excuses for the defeat, highlighting a misjudgment of their opponents' capabilities.

The game, held at Police Sacco Stadium, concluded with Bungoma Stars advancing to the round of 16, thanks to Meshack Makokha’s decisive goal in the 38th minute.

"My boys played well before they conceded, and in the second half, they showed seriousness but failed to have the killer punch. From what I could see from my players' body language, you could tell they underrated the opponent. I have lost the match that I thought we could have won," he said.

Bungoma Stars, having already made headlines by eliminating another FKF Premier League team, Bandari FC, in the preliminary round, demonstrated their capability to punch above their weight class.

Kenyatta's acknowledgment of underestimation serves as a testament to Bungoma Stars' emerging prowess in Kenyan football.

"If the boys were focused, they could have won the game, but there is always next time," Kenyatta said, hinting at a lesson learned the hard way and a hopeful outlook for future competitions.

Bungoma Stars' next challenge will be against Sofapaka, who secured their place in the round of 16 by edging out Silibwet Leons at Silibwet Stadium.

In other matches, SS Assad triumphed over Bomachoge Borabu with a 3-1 victory at the Kenyenya grounds.

Meanwhile, Compel and Kenya Police also booked their spots in the next round, with victories against Kajiado FC and Posta Rangers, respectively.
