A number of KEFOFA members were set to travel to Lilongwe to support the Harambee Stars as they take on Burundi and Ivory Coast, but the state-sponsored bus trip hit an unexpected hurdle on Tuesday.

The Kenya Football Fans Federation (KEFOFA) has issued a press statement addressing the unfortunate cancellation of the planned trip to Lilongwe.

The trip was organized for fans to support the Harambee Stars in their upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifier matches against Burundi on June 7 and Ivory Coast on June 11.

Trade CS Moses Kuria was supposed to facilitate the trip to Malawi, which was to be done through road, but opted against paying for it at the last minute, instead, offering National Youth Service (NYS) buses, which also failed to get released on time.

Pulse Sports earlier reported that inconvenienced fans were left angered by the last minute rushes, with chairman Francis Liboyi also lashing out at Kuria.

In a statement released by the KEFOFA Executive and seen by Pulse Sports, the federation expressed deep regret over the last-minute cancellation of the travel plans, which were set to commence on June 4, 2024. The statement reads:

"To our esteemed members, the Executive of Kenya Football Fans Federation (KEFOFA) regrets to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances, the travel party that was scheduled to depart yesterday, 4th of June 2024, aborted at the last minute. Kindly accept our most sincere apologies for this misstep."

Despite this setback, KEFOFA remains determined to ensure that the federation's presence is felt at both matches in Lilongwe. The Executive reassured members that efforts are ongoing to make this possible:

"The office has, however, not given up all hope of having representation at both matches as earlier intended and is working round the clock to ensure KEFOFA’s voices are heard in Lilongwe on the 7th and 11th, respectively, and at future events respectfully. We shall update you accordingly."

KEFOFA concluded the statement with gratitude for the unwavering support from its members:

"Thank you all for the steadfastness and the support you continue to give the office."

The federation's commitment to backing the Harambee Stars remains strong, as they navigate the challenges of ensuring fan representation at crucial matches. KEFOFA will continue to update its members as new developments arise.
